New Engine Labeling

Briggs and Stratton now labels some of their engines according to:
  • Engine Series
  • Foot pounds of gross torque the engine produces when tested.*
  • Engine displacement in cubic centemeters

What does this mean for you?

If you are replacing an engine that was labeled by horsepower it can be confusing.
Below is a chart of the new labeling system and translation to horsepower.
For example the 400 Series makes at least 4.0 ft lbs of torque, the 500 series 5.0 ft lbs of torque etc.
