SNOWBLOWER GLOSSARY

Electric snowblowers use no gas or oil and are plugged into an electrical outlet during use. These units are lightweight, maneuverable and maintenance free. Intended for light tasks including clearing decks, sidewalks and steps.

INTENDED FOR: Consumers that have less frequent snowfalls an lighter snowfalls. Consumers that do not have a driveway or large area to of snow to clear.

Electric start snowblowers use a key or push button to start the engine, so there is no pull start required. These generally come equipped with a pull start as well as the electric start.

INTENDED FOR: Consumers or professionals that frequently stop the engine during snow clearing. Consumers or professionals that want the convenience of starting the engine without pulling.

Single stage snowblowers use an auger assembly made from a combination of metal and plastic or hard rubber. The auger spins at high speed to chip ice and snow, collect it, and direct it out of a discharge chute. These units are intended for residential use after light to moderate snows of 3"-5."

INTENDED FOR: Consumers that have frequent light to moderate snows (3-5") and have a small to medium driveway surface area to clear.

Two stage snowblowers feature a spinning impeller behind the snow collection auger. The impeller functions like a pump. It collects the snow churned by the main auger and pushes it from the discharge chute at increased speed. This allows the two stage snowblower to move significantly more snow than a single stage snowblower.

INTENDED FOR: Consumers or professionals that have regular large amounts of snowfall (over 5") and/or large surface areas to clear.

INTENDED FOR: Consumers that have frequent light to moderate snows (3-5") and have a small to medium driveway surface area to clear.

Four cycle engines are engines that utilize four strokes to complete the operating cycle of an engines. These are larger engines that do not mix gas and oil. Four cycle engines will be mounted on larger snowblowers and will allow you to clear the maximum amount of snow possible.
